And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life.
Genesis 3:14
When was the last time you saw a serpent eating dust?

Actually, snakes are taking in motes of dust and dirt and tasting them every time they flick their tongues out. Because they typically have poor eyesight, they use this mechanism in the same way ants use their antenna to "see" the ground ahead of them. So when God told the serpent, "You will eat dust of the earth all the days of your life", he MEANT it.
