Another Bizarre AiG Cartoon

Well, unlike the last AiG cartoon I posted, I can at least kind of see what they are trying to say with this, but there are so many things wrong with this diagram. First, how is evolution an opinion? It's a scientific theory that has been established as a true fact. Truth isn't a matter of opinion. Second, how on earth can homosexual behaviour stem from evolution when procreation is the driving mechanism? Same applies to abortion, if we want to evolve as a species we should be squeezing kids out left, right and centre. Third, how does believing in creation provide an answer to the meaning of life? Do any creationists reading this care to explain?

These guys are idiots.

Because atheists like Voltaire (one of the greatest thinkers of the French enlightenment, and the best writer of the bunch) promoted lawlessness.

Anyway. That's all I've got.

Good find, Luke.

Homosexual behavior has been found in pretty much every primate species and is generally considered to have developed as a social mechanism to ease tensions. The presentation of homosexuality set against procreation as a dichotomy fails to look at other possible ways it could have evolved.

Genes in humans are not all a straight dominant vs recessive juxtaposition. Often times traits will blend. Homosexuality could easily be carried on through bisexuality. Something which with each generation it becomes increasingly clear is not particularly uncommon. (My personal suspicion being that as it becomes more socially acceptable more people are willing to admit it as opposed to it becoming physically more common considering that bisexuality in other primates is quite rampant.)

Another potential way it could have evolved is instead of a direct evolution, certain mutations could affect conditions of in utero development that could make it possible to occasionally squirt out a gay one. If it were something that didn't always occur the mutation could easily be passed on through generation after generation.

I'm sure there are probably several other possibilities that I haven't even thought of.

As far as the meaning of life, I think it's supposed to be inferred. God is your meaning. He has some plan. You don't need to know it. The end. Maybe I should ask one of my creationist friends. I'm a lifetime atheist so I don't have the most experience.

Thanks for the post Elle, interesting points. I think you're probably right that it stems from bisexuality. An individual who wants to shag everything it sees should spread its seed more widely even amongst just the opposite sex.

Pertaining to the question of meaning and purpose in life:
If you believe that there is no God then you must conclude that
a. You come from nowhere.
b. You come from no one.
c. When you die you are going nowhere.
d. When you die you are going to no one.
e. You have no objective reason to live.
According to the atheist, your whole existence is just matter in motion. Your thoughts, emotions, and actions are just chemical reactions determined by a set of naturalistic factors. The whole universe came about by chance. You were not intended and your entire being, all that you are, is a complete and total accident. Inevitably, the result is the same for all. We will all one day die and cease to exist. According to the atheist.

The Christian, however, believes he/she was created by a single preeminent and divine being. This being who knows everything and who has designed all things, exists eternally in perfect, loving relationship as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is the Triune Creator God. This being deeply loves his creatures and created human beings in order to share His wonderful, perfect life with them so that they could glorify Him in doing so. This is the Christian's purpose in life. The Christian has real, objective meaning for existence because God has reached out to all humanity in Jesus Christ, God incarnate, who bore the sins of the world and gave himself as a living sacrifice so that through faith in Jesus Christ humans could be saved from their sins and their selfish, Godless way of life and begin to be transformed by the Holy Spirit to the image and likeness of Christ, all for the glory of God.

The Christian believes this is why human beings were created and what human beings were intended for: right and loving relationship with God and others so that God could be glorified in them.
In essence, the Christian knows that:
a. They come from God.
b. God is perfect love.
c. God therefore loves them deeply and wants to bring them into his perfect life.
d. They exist to bring glory to God because from before time began, that's what God had purposed for them to do.
e. Bringing glory to God is the most fulfilling purpose for their life.
f. One day they will live in perfect relationship with Him and all of God's children in Heaven forever.

Without God there is no objective meaning or purpose for human existence.

The atheist believes he lives for no reason and no one.
More importantly, the Atheist lies to himself and says that he comes from no one and that no one loves him. Remember, emotions, intellect, actions, thoughts, whatever it is, it's all just chemicals fizzing for no clear or objective reason (according to the atheist). Therefore there is no such thing as love.

The Atheist fails to see that love is real and that it was love that brought him into existence.

"He who does not love does not know God, for God is love." 1 John 4:8

The last comment regurgitates what both atheists and christians already know - but how sad they think we have no wider world-view or spiritual lives.
They don't think spirituality is possible beyond their "spirit-land", while I've had a much richer life worshipping the universe as it is, not through the lens of some magical creator.

I also never felt the need for a heavenly father, as my own was a remarkable, kind, noble man who taught me all I needed to know about morality.

I've had cancer twice, and don't fear death. I've lived a rich enough life that one life's enough for me. Also, let's face it' Heaven sounds boring as hell.

That's why I don't need your God, Sparky.

you know the difference between true Christians and non Christians is this. I know this may deviate from the topic at hand but I'll say it anyways because it's foremost in my mind. Your last little statement, "sparky." I don't believe that was said in love, I think it was said in contempt and an attempt to antagonize the previous person who left that comment. Christianity of all things and nothing more teaches love, true love. How to love those who don't love you. Of course love is a hard thing to do. Many people don't understand it, and even more fail to do it. As far as truth is concerned, truthfully, scientists cannot prove where love comes from or what it is. they say it is an emotion or a thought. It is so much more than that though, love is an action, not constricted to thoughts or feelings. The bible states that God is love. And until anybody can TRUTHFULLY talk bad about that, then i think they should study up on it, because it's unwise to talk about something you haven't studied yourself.

Ummmm No the purpose of ALL life is simply to procreate.

First and foremost ALL life is just trying to procreate. Life is not an acciedent nor by chance. Life is a certainty when the right conditions are prevelent (abiogenesses)

Evolution is blamed for everything. Poor evolution, it's because of you that my car had a flat tire today. Oh wait, no, it's because god was punishing me because I thought -about- evolution. And god was also busy punishing the horribly suffering babes. Or something. God's plans and what not and so forth.

Anonymous said...

I'd love to explain...
1) Evolution is an idea. I'd rather post on this later so I can expound more. So hold that thought.
2) Abortion stems from a belief in evolution because evolution naturally minimizes the value of human life. After all, if we evolved from animals, we are no better than them, just a bit more evolved. Evolution also stems homosexual behavior because evolution minimizes the authority of scripture, which forbids homosexuality.

3)Creationism (or Christianity rather) gives life meaning because it means that we as humans were created by a perfect, orderly God who has a specific plan for us. It gives us a purpose for living, which would be glorifying him and doing his will. Evolution, on the other hand, says that we as humans evolved from random chance and thus our existence is random, unorderly, and unplanned, and without purpose.
Hope this helps!

To the last Anonymous; Why would a godlike entity demand worship? Why would it need to feel glorified? Why would it create entities with minds and then demand that they do its will? The whole god schtick falls apart in two minutes of rational thought.
And by the way evolution isn't random chance, but a form of feedback loop that gets rid of the least adaptable animals.

Anonymous said...

He doesn't demand worship. That's where the choice comes in. Humans can choose Him or they can choose their own alternative. There's a better choice in everyone's mind, but one will be right in the end. Then it won't matter what you BELIEVED, but what is the TRUTH. If atheists are right, Christians have nothing to lose. They will just decompose and cease to exist. However, when Christians are right, then atheists have everything to lose (eternal separation from God). That's just a risk some people are willing to take, unfortunately.

To the blogger: You state "[Evolution] It's a scientific theory that has been established as a true fact."

No, you are wrong and stating an untruth as a fact. Evolution is STILL a theory for the very reason that no one has been able to establish it as a true fact, making it the Law of Evolution just as we have the Law of Gravity. If I am wrong, please direct me to the paper/scientist that has finally proven this theory.

Thank you.

Just a single thought this time, and my last time wasting my time but, if evolution cannot be a "theory" proven as "fact". That is a contradiction. If evolution was true, it would be called a "Law". Learn your science my boy. Better luck next time.
